Valcarcel Issues Statement on Billy Joe Saunders
PhilBoxing.com Fri, 12 Oct 2018
 Billy Joe Saunders.
WBO President Francisco ?Paco? Valc?rcel, Esq reacted on Billy Joe Saunders' public comments regarding his world title status:
?B.J. Saunders has voluntarily vacated the WBO Middleweight Title, and publicly apologized for his violation of the Massachusetts Athletic Commission's anti-doping regulations?.
?Therefore, the clash between Demetrius Andrade and Walter Kautondonkwa scheduled for October 20th will now be for the vacant World Crown?.
?Also, I will recommend to the WBO Executive Committee that Saunders receives a six month suspension for his transgression?.
Saunders, the WBO world middleweight champion since 2015, was not licensed by the Massachusetts State Athletic Commission for his title defense against Demetrius Andrade scheduled on Oct. 20 at The Garden in Boston after he was tested positive of oxilofrine, a banned substance.
Saunders' promoter Frank Warren argued that the substance is a "common decongestant nasal spray" and is permitted out of competition by UK Anti-Doping (Ukad). However, VADA banned the substance at all times.
Warren said he will challenge the MSAC's decision in court.
Saunders has relinquished the title "with a heavy heart while this issue is being resolved" according to Warren.
Saunders had a rough time in recent months. In August, he had a fracas in a chicken restaurant in Belfast with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. In September, Saunders was fined ?100k by the British Boxing Board of Control for misconduct after a video was shared online in which Saunders offers a woman ?150 worth of drugs to perform a sex act.
Andrade will now fight No. 1 contender Walter Kautondonkwa for the vacant title on Oct. 20.
