Bobby Gunn Looks To Make History Again In Becoming 2 Division BKB Champion

PhilBoxing.com

Since 2011 Bobby Gunn has been the poster child for bare knuckle boxing, most recognized for the distinguished title he has held as World Heavyweight BKB Champion. He won the honor August 5, 2011 when he defeated Richard Stewart via third round TKO. Earlier this year he competed at BKFC 1 in Wyoming, winning by way of first round knockout over Irineu Beato Costa.

In two weeks he returns to the squared circle of the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championships for BKFC 3: The Takeover, and will be throwing hands with Roberto Dos Santos Borges, a 29-3 boxer with 24 wins by knockout and undefeated bare knuckle fighter in 23 fights. Borges comes from a deep line of fight roots and was adamant about calling out Bobby Gunn for this opportunity, seeking to avenge his countryman?s defeat at the hands of Gunn in June. In the fight world Brazilians are known for being proud fighters and for their comradery within the fight community.

"Henry Armstrong in the 1930s, and Bob Fitzsimmons in the early 1900s each dropped down a weight class to become multiple division boxing Champions, but both of these fighting legends were gloved boxers. Our Police Gazette Heavyweight Diamond Belt World Champion Bobby Gunn the first to hold the iconic bare knuckle title since John L. Sullivan last won it in 1889, will be the first-ever Police Gazette title holder in history, if he wins, to drop a division and own a second bare knuckle title. On October 20th Bobby will fight for the vacant Light-Heavyweight Police Gazette World title. It promises to be an exciting evening folks," stated Scott Burt.

Scott is not only the sole caretaker of the iconic Police Gazette belt, the only person in the World who can name Police Gazette Champions, but is also the President of the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame housed in John L. Sullivan's original 1889 training barns located in Belfast, New York. Scott will be center ring October 20th with the historic hardware. He champions the sport on a daily basis and is the go-to authority on bare knuckle boxing in today's world.

?This is an honor, and what I?ve been working towards my whole career,? said Gunn, who is also a former Cruiserweight gloved boxing champion. ?After my win in June, my team and I discussed it and thought dropping weight and pursuing the World Light Heavyweight Diamond Title was the best direction for me to go in. I will be fighting a tough opponent in Borges, who is known throughout the bare knuckle world for his heavy hands, but I?ve worked hard to get ready for this and am excited for the challenge. But I want to clarify to the fans that I am not abandoning my heavyweight title in this fight. I walk around as a small heavyweight so dropping the weight has never been an issue. If I win this fight October 20 I will be the first fighter in bare knuckle boxing history to hold two world titles in two divisions at the same time. In 2019 I plan on defending my heavyweight belt.?

Gunn?s World Light Heavyweight Title Fight is part of an action packed fight card live from the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Also going to war for the United States Heavyweight Championship is Sam Shewmaker vs. Arnold Adams; also on the undercard is Kendall Grove vs. Marcel Stamps; Christine Ferea vs. Jennifer Tate; Brok Weaver vs. Joe Riggs; Reggie Barnett Jr., Harris Stephenson, Chris Cella, and several other exciting fighters.
