Bernardino wins Pub Chess Week 36 in Singapore

SINGAPORE---Filipino and United States chess master Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. pocketed the top honors in the Singapore Open Blitz Chess Championships dubbed as Pub Chess Week 36 held at The Black Sheep in Jalan Besar here in Singapore last Saturday, September 8, 2018.
The 41-years-old Quezon City resident Bernardino whose stint here is being supported by World Billiards Champion Marlon "Marvelous" Manalo, chairman of Barangay Malamig in Mandaluyong City, collected eight points on seven wins and two draws to win the single-round robin tournament in the one day event organized by Pubxchess led by Carleton Lim.
The 2005 Virginia, USA Rapid Open champion Bernardino is one of the top players of the multi-titled State Colleges and Universities Athletic Association-National Capital Region (SCUAA-NCR) champion Barangay Malamig Rizal Technological University Chess Team.
Bernardino scored victories over Klaus Yssing of Denmark in the first round, Jayson Jacobo Tiburcio of the Philippines in the second round, Liu Dao Wei of Singapore in the third round, Jonatan Yu of the USA in the fourth round, Ronnie Tamares of the Philippines in the sixth round, Carleton Lim of Singapore in the seventh round and Georgios Tsichlis of Greece in the eight round.
He split the point with Ethan Poh of Singapore in the fifth round and compatriot Arena Grandmaster and Fide Master elect Robert Suelo Jr. in the ninth and final round.
Poh placed second overall with 7.5 points on seven wins, one draw and one loses while another Filipino bet Suelo, who has inferior tiebreak points, ended in third with the same 7.5 points on seven wins, one draw and one loses.
The other Filipino entries were Tiburcio in 7th place with 4 points and Tamares in 8th place with 3 points.
