DODIE PROMISES AN EXPLOSIVE SON

PhilBoxing.com

GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Expect a slam-bang boxing when the son of Dodie Boy Pe?alosa fights again in the ring.

His father and trainer, Dodie Boy Pe?alosa, Sr. makes sure of that.

"Nindot gyud ni nga duwa, malingaw gyud ang mga tawo ani (This will be a good bout, the spectator will really be entertained by this), the elder Pe?alosa said inside the Pacman Wilcard Gym here since he is also part of the coaching staff of Manny Pacquiao, priming the fighting senator for his July 15 fight against Lucas Matthysse in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

While there, his son Dave is also training in the same Pacquiao owned sports facility since the former will have his July 7 comeback fight dubbed, "Rumble in Bohol" versus Indonesian journeyman Ricky Manufoe in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The fight promoted by his brother, Gerry Pe?alosa, is co-sponsored by Tagbilaran City Mayor John Geesnel "Baba" Yap. It will be held in the city's Bohol Wisdom School gymnasium.

Dodie said his son's fighting style never changed and part of that is being a crowd pleaser.

"Kaning bata-a dili man ni mudagan, crowd pleaser man ning bata-a, dili man ni ganahan nga mudagan-dagan (this kid would not run, he is a crowd pleaser, he doesn't want to run)," Dodie Boy added.

The elder Pe?alosa also said that a knock-out is not far fetched.

"Sinumbagay ni, naay mangatumba ani (This will be exchange of blows, somebody would be knock-out).

Asked for his reaction, Dave, 27, said he started training in April and he will see to it that the spectators would be pleased.

"Dili gyud ko muatras ani, kung makakita ko ug tsansa, tumbahon gyud nako (I will never retreat, if I will have chance, I will really knock him out), Dave told Philboxing.com.

He said he wants to prove that he still has the boxing abilities that the Pe?alosa's have.

His father had two world championship belts during his prime, the International Boxing Federation (IBF) junior flyweight and flyweight.

Gerry, his uncle, was the former World Boxing Council (WBC) junior bantamweight champion and World Boxing Organization (WBO) bantamweight titlist.

Another uncle, who will act as the chief second in his corner, Jonathan, was the World Boxing Council (WBC) international flyweight champion while his grandfather, Carl used to be the Philippine boxing champion in the 1960's, holding the lightweight belt and later the junior welterweight.

Dave was inactive since 2015. Before his inactivity, he won all 12 of his fights, 8 of them by knockouts.

According to Gerry, Dave will be lined up for future regional championships in the featherweight division, as his nephew had been elevated from being a bantamweight.

Another nephew, Carlo Pe?alosa, the son of his elder sister Marissa from San Carlos City, Negros Occidental will be the co-main event of the fight. Carlo will be facing Iwan Key, also an Indonesian.

The fight that will start at 12:30 noon until 4pm will be aired live via ESPN-TV5.
