PhilBoxing.com Thu, 14 Jun 2018
LAS VEGAS (June 13, 2018) ? One of the United States? top amateur boxers, Chris ?The Boy? Zavala, has signed a multi-year promotional agreement with Top Rank, Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum announced today.
Zavala, an 18-year-old native of Long Beach, California, had a sterling amateur record of 125-9, traveling around the globe as one of the nation?s best young boxers and winning a 2015 National Golden Gloves title at 125 pounds.
He will compete in the featherweight division and make his pro debut June 30 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on the undercard of Gilberto Ramirez?s ESPN-televised WBO super middleweight title defense against Alexis Angulo. Zavala?s fight is scheduled to be shown on ESPN+, which will broadcast the entire undercard starting at 6:30 p.m. ET.
?As a fighter, signing with Top Rank is a dream come true,? Zavala said. ?And to have Richard Anthony as a manager, I could say it?s one of the best decisions I?ve made in a long time. My family and I together, we?ve all worked hard to get exactly to this point. They are the reason why I fight and why I get up every day morning and train as hard as I do. Thanks to Richard and my family, but also Top Rank for giving me a shot at greatness, which I will never take for granted.?
?Chris is a great guy with a high IQ both inside and outside the ring,? Anthony said. ?His extensive amateur record speaks for itself, and I am very excited to start the professional journey with him and his family. We are thrilled to join Bob Arum and the Top Rank family and look forward to years of prosperity.?
Zavala has been trained by Manny Robles since he was 9 years old and will make his professional home at Legendz Boxing in Norwalk, California. As an amateur, he sparred the likes of Oscar Valdez, Jessie Magdaleno, and Michael Conlan.
