Bersamina beats Chinese foe PhilBoxing.com Fri, 01 Jun 2018 TAGAYTAY CITY---Filipino International Master Paulo Bersamina bested Chinese Qingyu Yuan in the eight and penultimate round and share fourth spot Thursday night in the 2018 Tagaytay Asian Universities chess championships at Tagaytay International Convetion Center here. The 20-year-old Bersamina, top player of National University team manager Samson Go and United States Chess Federation (USCF) master NU coach Jose "Jojo" Aquino Jr., has 5.5 points on five wins, one draw and one loss in this nine-round tournament organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) headed by it's chairman/president Surigao del Sur. Rep. Prospero "Butch" Arreza Pichay Jr. and secretary-general Abraham "Bambol" Tolentino Jr. in cooperation with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Tagaytay City government led Mayor Agnes Tolentino to join countryman International Master John Marvin Miciano of Davao City , International Master Muhammad Lutfi Ali of Indonesia and International Master Wang Chen in the fourth spots. Top seed International Master Xu Yi of China split the point with Ali to remain on top with 6.5 points. With one round to go, Xu was half point ahead with Fide Master Jeevitesh J Sai Agni of India and Fide Master Yoseph Theolifus Taher of Indonesia, both tallied 6.0 points each. Sai Agni trounced International Master Wang Yiye of China while Taher subdued Fide Master Arif Abdul Hafiz of Indonesia. In the distaff side, top seed Woman Grandmaster Wang Jue of China dismantled compatriot Manli Liu to remain on top. Wang, a student of Capital University of Physical Education and Sports raised her total to 7.0 points on 6 wins and 2 draws. Woman International Master Mengjie Qiu of China edged Woman International Master Marie Antoinette San Diego of Dasmari?as City to climbed at solo second place with 6.0 points, half point ahead with Xin Nie of China and Woman International Master Bernadette Galas of Makati City who totes 5.5 points each. Tournament Director is International Organizer Casto "Toti" Abundo of Asian Chess Federation while International Arbiter Bong Bunawan of Indonesia is the chief arbiter assisted by International Arbiter Patrick Lee and Fide Arbiter Lito Abril. Meanwhile, the staging of the two-day (June 2 and 3, 2018) FIDE (World Chess Federation) Arbiters' Seminar gets underway at the Rizmy Hotel, Cabuyao City, Laguna. The two-day FIDE seminar hosted by Cabuyao City, Laguna in cooperation with the National Chess Federation of Philippines (NCFP) and with the Asian Chess Federation and under the auspices of FIDE. The Lecturer will be IA Casto "Toti" Abundo and Assistant Lecturer will be IA Patrick Lee. The language of the Seminar will be English. The Seminar will give norms for the FIDE Arbiter title according to the Regulations for the titles of the Arbiters.
