NBA -- Too much Irving downs Wiz in OT

WASHINGTON -- Kyrie Irving sizzled with 28 points and the Boston Celtics outlasted the Washington Wizards in overtime, 110-104, at the Verizon Center.
Boston (40-17), which just surrendered the best record in the Eastern Conference to the surging Toronto Raptors (38-16), played with a purpose on Thursday night and shot 46.4 percent from the field (39 of 84) including a decent 9-of-26 fare from 3-point territory.
Irving, who also dished six dimes, got ample support from his teammates as Jaylen Brown connected for 18 markers while Al Horford contributed 12. Marcus Morris and Jason Tatum combined for 26 points.
Otto Porter Jr was the main man for the Wizards 27 points. Bradley Beal had 18 and 9 assists while Tomas Satoransky chipped in 14.
Washington, which is missing the services of John Wall (knee), shot only 40 percent from the field, converting a mere 38 of 95 shots. The Wiz are currently in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 31-24 slate.
