RSCS IN LUZON PRELIMS OF PSC-PACQUIAO BOXING CUP

PhilBoxing.com

SORSOGON CITY ? Five out of six bouts all in the Youth Boys Light flyweight category ended up via a Referee-Stop-Contest in Day 2 of the Luzon Preliminaries of the PSC-Pacquiao Amateur Boxing Cup held Sunday at the Sorsogon National High School covered court here.

It was only Pili?s Ronald Quilano, who won by a convincing unanimous decision against Camarines Norte?s Jayson Hernandez in the 46-49 kg. category.

Quilano dominated the 3-round fight by connecting a flurry of body shots to give Pili?s second win in the two-day competition sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission in coordination with the Office of Sen. Manny Pacquiao.

The other five matches ended via the short route.

Iriga?s Francis Aya-ay stopped Gubat?s Reyel Azana in 2:22 of the 1st round while Binan?s Darwin Boyones pummeled to submission Juban?s Chris delos Reyes in 1:01 of Round 2.

Sorsogon City?s Elmer Marbella bloodied the mouth of Barcelona?s Joel Lajota with solid jabs to win by a RSC due to injury in 2:59 of Round 1.

Likewise, Tuguegarao?s Ranger Bautista, who landed solid punches to stop Prieto Diaz?s John Mark Dollentas by a RSC due to injury in 2:26 of the opening round.

?There are a lot of promising young boxers here,? said Supervising technical director Roger Fortaleza of the Philippine Sports Institute.

Mandaluyong and Bulan of Sorsogon also had earlier scored two victories in the opening day last Saturday while Baguio, Prieto Diaz and Cambulaga each had one win.

The winners will advance to the Luzon Quarter Finals on February 17 and 18 tentatively slated in Binan City. The next leg of the nationwide grassroots development program is on February 3 and 4 in Bago City for the Visayas Preliminaries.
