By Daniel Quindao Guden PhilBoxing.com Thu, 30 Nov 2017
MINNEAPOLIS - The visiting Washington Wizards snapped a two-game losing streak by beating the Minnesota Timberwolves, 92-89, in front of 13 ,442 fans at the newly renovated Target Center.
Due to the absence of injured point guard John Wall. Otto Porter Jr. stepped up and became the finisher and made his 22-foot jumper with 25 seconds left to play.
The Wizards trail ed for the most part, falling behind 30-23 after one quarter and 51-43 at the half. But the Wiz outscored the Wolves in the third quarter before pulling away with a 24-18 fourth quarter spurt.
Wizards forward Mike Scott's 3 tied the game 87-all with 2:45 remaining in the final frame before Minnesota's Taj Gibson gave the Wolves back the lead with 58 ticks to go.
Kelly Oubre Jr. had 16 points while Jodie Meeks and Scott
finished with 12 apiece. Wizards second leading scorer shooting guard Bradley Beal had only 8 points.
For the losing Timberwolves Karl-Anthony Towns had another double-double with 20 points and 17 boards, Jimmy Butler contributed 17 points with 10 rebounds, Gibson 16 points and 11 boards. Wiggins had 13 while Tyus Jones chipped in 12.
?You?ve just got to figure out a way to win. That?s the bottom line when you?re short-handed? Wolves head coach Tom Thibodeau said at the post game interview.
?We?re down two rotation players (Teague and forward Nemanja Bjelica) we can?t underestimate how hard we have to play the whole time to get a win. And if you get a lead, you?ve got to play tough with that lead" he added.
The Timberwolves will visit the New Orleans Pelicans Wednesday night while the Wizards will face the Philadelphia 76ers on the same night.
