IM SENADOR CO-CHAMP IN ASEAN RAPID CHESS OPEN

5.0 points---Muhd Syakir Shazmeer Azhar (Malaysia), Ruzenan Abu Bakar (Malaysia)
4.5 points---Sumant Subramaniam (Malaysia), NM Roberto Suelo Jr. (Philippines)
INTERNATIONAL Master Emmanuel Senador of the Philippines and IM Dede Lioe of Indonesia defeated their respective opponents in the sixth and final round to create a two-way tie for first place at the conclusion of the 2017 ASEAN Rapid Chess Open at Grand Darul Makmur Hotel, Kuantan, Pahang, Malaysia on Sunday, November 26, 2017.
The Iloilo City native Senador toppled Tick Hong Jax Tham of Malaysia while Lioe subdued Sumant Subramaniam of Malaysia.
Thus, Senador and Lioe , both collected five wins and a draw in six rounds. However, after the tie break points was applied, Lioe took the title and the gold medal via superior quotient while Senador received the silver medal for the runne-up place.
The Filipino co-champion routed Suwardi Andri Sidek of Malaysia in the first round, Abdul Rahim Ramli of Malaysia in the second round, Abdul Haq Mohd of Malaysia in the third round, Mohd Ezmi Mahmoodof Malaysia in the fourth round then halved the point with Lioe in the fifth round before beating Tham in teh sixth round.
Muhd Syakir Shazmeer Azhar and Ruzenan Abu Bakar of Malaysia were tied in third to fourth place with 5.0 points apiece.
Subramaniam, meantime remains at 4.5 points, the same output of National Master Roberto Suelo Jr. of the Philippines.
