Are You a ?Hater? If You Are Against Mayweather-McGregor?

PhilBoxing.com

On September 12, 2015 Floyd Mayweather defeated Andre Berto and then announced his retirement from the sport of Boxing. After 19 years in the sport he was able to officially amassed a record of 49-0, 26KOs, capture multiple world titles from 130lbs-154lbs, earn almost half a billion dollars, and whether truly retired or not is still the face of boxing.

Last year his company, Mayweather Promotions, filed for trademarks ?TMT 50? and ?TBE 50?, according to records on the US patent and trademark website. This is no doubt to capitalize financially in the future when he comes out of his retirement and attempts to improve his record to 50-0. According to this writer?s sources, there were confidential negotiations for a rematch against Pacquiao which failed to materialize into anything official. Mayweather then expressed interest in fighting current WBC welterweight champion Danny Garcia, which would be a ?tough sell? financially in comparison to a Manny Pacquiao rematch.

Since then Mayweather has engaged in a public war of words with UFC MMA fighter Connor McGregor. Both men appear to want to fight each other. The problem is they fight in different sports. Mayweather is a boxer. Boxers fight 3 minute rounds that can be between 4-12 rounds. MMA fighters fight up to 5 rounds. They punch, kick, choke, wrestle and fight inside an Octagon (a closed metal cage).

The readers of this article may say, ?we know that?. The Powers that be and the potential Financers of the fight may say, ?we're well aware of that, but we still wanna see what?s gonna happen because it will sell even if Mayweather is currently a 25-1 favorite to beat McGregor.?

So in the American Urban Street vernacular, ?Mr. Boxing Writer: Stop hating on two Athletes tryin' to get money or paper?. Right?

First of all let?s define the term ?Hater? or ?Hating?.

According to Dictionary.com the word, ?Hater? is defined as:

a?person?who?has?an?intense?dislike?for?another Person?or?thing?(often used?in?combination):?*Example, I'm?a?big?hater?of?boxing mismatches. or(Informal)?a?person?who?thrives?on?showing?hate?toward,?criticizing,?or belittling?other?people?or?things,?usually?unfairly: Example, *The?guy?is?just?a?hater,?looking?for?a?reason.

To my recollection within the past 15 years it is one of the most popular an overused terms to label another individual when they have something contrary to say about another especially if it?s not flattering. However, in all fairness the term would not exist if there were no ?haters?. This writer isn?t ?hating? on a potential fight between Mayweather-McGregor. God bless them both if this fight outsells Mayweather-Pacquiao, Canelo-Mayweather, De La Hoya-Mayweather**!

But keep in mind Connor McGregor has an 18-3 MMA record. As a professional boxer he is 0-0, 0K0s. What challenge can he present to a pure boxer like Mayweather? If he can withstand Mayweather?s counter punching, can he go a full 12 rounds instead 5 rounds? It seems as though McGregor only has a ?puncher?s chance?, which means he would have to land a lucky punch or ?haymaker? to knockout or seriously hurt Mayweather for a stoppage to win the fight.

Boxing Promoters, elite fighters, and boxing fans are questioning the purpose of this fight other then it being a commercial fight solely to generate millions with very little competitiveness. Hopefully, McGregor doesn?t get seriously hurt by fighting the self-proclaimed ?The best ever? fighter in the world who recently turned 40 years old. Hopefully, McGregor will be a lot richer, still have his mental faculties, and can resume his career as an MMA fighter after fighting Mayweather. Whether a hardcore fan or an occasional fan; one cannot be seriously labeled a ?Hater? if they are not in favor of seeing this fight for the aforementioned reasons.

Boxing Notes? Last Saturday?s PBC card showcased an exciting Heavyweight matchup. No, I am not referring to WBC champion Deontay Wilder being outboxed, frustrated, and exposed for 5 rounds by unheralded Gerald Washington until Wilder landed a ?Haymaker? to win the fight. The real fight was Dominic Breazeale vs Izu Ugonoh which stole the show! Not since the days of Mike Tyson have I seen this much excitement in a Heavyweight bout with both fighters suffering knockdowns and on the verge of losing the fight. Congratulations to Breazeale on his victory! However, Breazeale may want to be more physically fit if he hopes to be successful if and when he receives another title shot (maybe) against Wilder so they can squash their beef in the ring instead of a lobby so bystanders don?t get hurt as reported??Hopefully this Saturday?s welterweight WBC-WBA unification match between Garcia and Thurman lives up to it?s billing and does not end up a draw like our last unification at Barclays (Degale-Jack). It would be great to see the winner of Garcia-Thurman unify against the winner of Brook-Spence. With fights like that ?Money? Mayweather can stay retired and Manny can tend to his duties as a Senator and eventually run for President in the Philippines?.Finally, I am aware Al Haymon is an excellent Businessman and Advisor to Entertainers, Athletes, etc.! It appears Al Haymon forgot to tell Mayweather to invest in a Home Alarm Monitoring System for his Mansion in Las Vegas and a safety deposit box in the Bank. If Mayweather had a Home Alarm Monitoring System perhaps his home would not have been burglarized for a reported 150k while he was celebrating his 40th birthday. I can recommend a few companies free of charge.
