MAGSAYO CO-HEADLINES PINOY PRIDE 40 PhilBoxing.com Fri, 24 Feb 2017 ![]() Since December and after his US September show where he won over Mexico?s Ramiro Robles under the Nietes-Sosa flyweight championship in Carson, CA, Magsayo has been training and getting ready for his next fight scheduled on April 29, under Pinoy Pride 40. Recognized as one of the most promising young Filipino boxing prospects in the country, WBO International Featherweight champion Mark Magsayo made waves last year with both local and international media lauding his impressive win over veteran and former world title challenger Chris ?The Hitman? Avalos. The fight, under the Donaire-Bedak world championship in April 2016, earned Magsayo the number 1 spot in Mark Butcher?s ?Five rising stars of Boxing to watch in 2017? which appeared online on Asia Times, calling it a ?bona fide Fight of the Year contender?. Butcher added the young Magsayo ?gatecrashed the world rankings with that stirring victory and illustrated he has the heart and spirit to overcome adversity?. After signing with ALA Promotions, Magsayo became quite the crowd?s favorite shortly after showcasing his skills in the professional boxing stage in 2013 over a knockout win against Melton Sandal. His aggressive style and quick combinations proved to be effective as he soared through his next fights and remains undefeated. As an amateur, Magsayo fought over 150 bouts and was a 4-time national champion under the Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP). He was also awarded the ?Best Boxer?(national) title twice. To date, his most significant challenge was the confrontation against world challenger Avalos, which convinced most in the boxing industry that he has what it takes to become the country?s next Manny Pacquiao. Before others could add their own prediction on the young Magsayo?s future, his promoter, President and CEO of ALA Promotions Michael Aldeguer, saying there will never be another Pacquiao and that the young prospect still has a long way to go, right away addressed this claim. To support this assessment, Magsayo was sent to train at the Wild Card Gym a month after. Magsayo, in a separate interview, seconded his promoter?s words and admitted he still has a lot to work on, but promised ?the world would see a better fighter in my next fights?. He added he has since learned a lot from his most recent fights. The undefeated Magsayo is currently ranked #6 by the WBO and is the WBO International Featherweight champion. ![]() |
