NBA -- Warriors push Pelicans to 0-2 start

NEW ORLEANS -- After scoring 50 points to open the 2016-17 season, Anthony Davis dropped 45 on the visiting Golden State Warriors on Friday night, but it wasn't enough to beat the reigning Western Conference champions who walked out of the Smoothie King Center with a 122-114 victory.
Kevin Durant, who fled Oklahoma City to join Golden State during the off-season, led the Warriors' attack with 30 points, 17 rebounds and 6 dimes. Klay Thompson, who was quiet during the 129-100 opening night loss to the Spurs, exploded for 28. Steph Curry added 23.
"We're playing hard, playing with a lot of energy, but we've got to find a way to execute better down the stretch," Davis, who also gathered 17 boards, told reporters after his team limped to an 0-2 start.
The Pelicans made a decent 47 of 100 field goals (47 percent) but they missed 17 of 22 triples and converted just 15 of 23 free throws. Tim Frazier had 21 off the bench for New Orleans while Lance Stephenson and Dante Cunningham added 15 apiece.
The Warriors, who rebounded nicely from the home opener loss at the hands of the mighty Spurs, shot 44 of 91 from the field (48.4 percent), 9 of 28 from long distance (32.1 percent) and 25 of 28 (89.3 percent) from the free throw stripe.
