PACQUIAO WILL NOT REMISS ON HIS SENATE JOB

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY - Manny Pacquiao will see to it that he will not fail on his solemn oath as Senator of the Republic of the Philippines while he also engage on his profession as boxer.

So said Dom Lagare, Pacquiao's legislative staff officer who represented for the Senator in the launching last October 1 of Kilusang Pagbabago (KP-Cebu), a mass movement among the supporters of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte here.

Lagare said Pacquiao will not leave the country for the United States of America (U.S.A.) until October 20 when the senate will have a recess.

The fighting Senator who has been called "Pambasang Kamao (national fist)" will be fighting against Jesse Vargas for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) welterweight title on November 5 at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas.

"Boss Manny will depart on October 22, he will not miss any sessions in the senate. He is fulfilling his promise to the Filipino electorates and our other countrymen that his being a boxer will not interfere with his job as Senator" Lagare told Philboxing.com.

Lagare added that Pacquiao will also leave the U.S.A. immediately after the Vargas fight to catch up with the resumption of the senate sessions on Nov. 7.

Lagare and other members of Team Pacquiao will join with the senator in Las Vegas to be at ringside during the Vargas fight which will also have another Filipino boxer Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire as one of its undercards.

Donaire is being pitted against Jesse Magdaleno for the WBO Super Bantaweight title.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao through Lagare thanked the Cebuanos for making him 4th in the senatorial race during the May 9 polls. Pacquiao landed in the 7th spot among the 12 senatorial winners.

The senator also reiterated his strong support to the Duterte administration in its relentless campaign against illegal drugs, curbing corruption and to the advocacy of change.

The KP Cebu launching was held at the historic Cebu coliseum with Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco as its keynote speaker, where on August 4, 1964, the coliseum was also the venue were the late Gabriel "Flash" Elorde recaptured his Orient Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) lightweight title, their third of fourth encounters spanning from 1961-1965.

Aside from the distinction of being the only eight-division world boxing champion, Pacquiao is also setting another first, to be the "only senator to be world boxing champion" if he wins in his fight against Vargas.

He last fought against Timothy Bradley, winning convincingly last April 9, 2016 to finally settle their own trilogy.

Bradley took the first encounter albeit controversial, Pacquiao won next but on slim advantage, hence the third encounter.
