DONE DEAL KRIS GEORGE VS CAMERON HAMMOND

PhilBoxing.com

Commonwealth title comes to the Garden City for the first time.

IT'S A DONE DEAL, KRIS GEORGE WILL FIGHT CAMERON HAMMOND in Toowoomba for the Welterweight Commonwealth title.

"This is history for Toowoomba," Brendon Smith said.

"Both fighters have signed, now we will confirm a date.

"It will be in Toowoomba.

"We've never had a Commonwealth title here so this is huge news.

"I have the signatures of both men and I have a verbal agreement with the Commonwealth to sanction the bout.

"I would like to thank Ricky Hatton and the team of Hatton Promotions - who promote Cameron Hammond for accepting our offer and their professionalism in the negotiation process to get the deal down and bring the fight Downunder.

"I would also like to thank the President of the Commonwealth Boxing Council Mr Frank Hadley and look forward to welcoming the Commonwealth President to Toowoomba.

"This is a super fight in our country and a huge opportunity for both Kris and Cameron.

"We've worked hard to bring this bout to Toowoomba and I'm proud to say we've pulled it off."

This is a bout between two of the best fighters not only in this country but in the World. It's come about after Cameron Hammond was scheduled to face Jack Brubaker later this month for the belt but Brubaker had to withdraw with a hand injury.

As soon as news surfaced of Brubaker's withdrawal Kris George wasted no time putting his hand up challenging Hammond.

Negotiations are done, it's official.

"I'm very happy to be given this chance it's a dream come true," George said.

"Cameron's been on my radar for a while and I don't feel he's been tested yet. It couldn't of worked out better for me.

"This is a huge fight for Toowoomba.

"This is what I'm about, I want the big fights, I want to take my career to the next level.

"If I can win a Commonwealth title - that's massive."

With contracts signed, it's now down to locking in the date. Promoter Brendon Smith has confirmed it will be before Christmas.

"Without a doubt, we're looking at late November or December," Smith said.

"This is a bout between two men who have just the one defeat between them.

"Both boys are World class.

"The fact that the Commonwealth has verbally agreed to sanction it speaks volumes of the standard of this fight.

"The Commonwealth title is one of the most prestigious In the World.

"It's been around 30 to 40 years since two Australians fought for a Commonwealth title in Queensland.

"The Toowoomba fans deserve this fight.

"This is huge for our region and our country."
