UPTOWN RUMBLE: CANOY EDGES AUTIDA IN A BLOODY WAR (COMPLETE RESULTS AND PHOTOS)

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY ? Filipino bantamweight veteran Jason Canoy of the Omega Gym and Jestoni Autida of the Penalosa Stable engaged in a bloody war during Saturday night's free to the public 'Uptown Rumble' held at the open air One Mango Avenue parking lot promoted by Omega Pro-Sports International much to the appreciation by the walk in crowd who lustily root for the two warriors. In the end Canoy, who scored a picture perfect knockdown in the 3rd round, edged Autida by unanimous decision. Judge Edwin Barrientos had it 96-94, Edgar Olalo, 96-93, and Teddy Alivio put in a questionable score of 98-91, all in favor Canoy.

Canoy (25-6-2, 18KO), whose main claim to fame was a first round demolitions over highly regarded Filipino contender Drian Francisco on May 30, 2015, came in as the aggressor right off the bat and scored heavy punches over Autida (9-5-0, 4KO) but in the second round, Autida, who had the height and reach advantage, refused to be bullied by the surging Canoy and scored accurate counters that stunned Canoy.

Canoy scores a knockdown in 3rd.
In the 3rd round, Canoy connected with a well-timed and picture perfect right uppercut to the jaw of Autida sending Autida to the canvas in the only knockdown of the fight. Canoy failed to finish off Autida who recovered very well but sustained a cut on his left eyebrow. In the 4th, Autida came back strong a inflected a cut on Canoy right eyebrow with the pace of the fight slowing down in the 5th and 6th rounds as both fighters took a breather.

In the 7th, both fighters poured it on as each connected with heavy blows toward the other as blood dripped from Canoy's and Autida's faces although Canoy seemed to connect with the heavier punches going into the eight round. Autida got the better of Canoy in the 9th as Canoy seemed to be winded but both fighters gave their all the 10th and final round.

In the main undercard, Jerry Castroverde (9-2-0, 5KO) of Cebu City made short work of trial horse Hagibis Quinones (5-18-1, 4KO) of General Santos City. Castroverde trapped Quinones in the neutral corner where he caught the visiting fighter with a body shot. Time: 2:36 of the first round.

Rafuela (L) vs Borbon got the crowd heat up.

The other undercard matchup of note was the fight between Ar-Ar Borbon of Cebu City from the host Omega Gym versus Ian Rafuela, also Cebu City, from the Penalosa Stable in a 4-round light flyweight bout. Both were undefeated before the Saturday's fight and both displayed ring savvy and veteran poise like seasoned pros. Both fighters connected with solid blows in a seesaw battle as neither one backed out sending the walk-in audience at the edge of their seats and for those who were standing, on their toes. Too bad the matchup only lasted four rounds as it seemed the real war was only beginning. In the end, Rafuelo walked out with a majority decision win with scores of 39-37, 39-37 and 38-38. Rafuela registered his second pro victory in as many fights while Borbon absorbed his first loss and went down 2-1-1 with 2KO's. As long as these two fighters will continue to fight professionally, we will hear more of them in the future.

Other results:

- 8 rounds Bantamweight: Jared Payao (13-1-0, 7KO) of Cebu City wins by unanimous decision over journeyman Jay-R Salvador (5-28-3, 0KO) in a rather dull fight as Payao could not seem land a solid punch over his lighty-regarded opponent Salvador who was also very adept in avoiding Payao's punches.

- 8 rounds Lightweight: Journeyman Ryan Quimbo (5-12-1, 0KO) of Cebu City finally added another win after eight straight losses by edging Korean Kim Jae Ho (6-2-1, 2KO) whose powder puff punches has had no effects on Quimbo who its seemed would not be able to finish the fight as he was gasping for breath as early as the 5th round. But Quimbo's harder and more accurate punches carried the night for him. All three judges gave Quimbo the edge with scores of 77-75 over the Korean.

- 8 rounds Junior Flyweight: Salatiel Amit (8-1-2, 6KO) of Cebu City wins by TKO over Junriel Jimenez (5-1-0, 2KO), also of Cebu City. Jimenez refused to come out in the 6th round after earlier taking heavy punishment from Amit who was deducted a point in the 5th round by the referee for low blows. Amit registered his 6th stoppage win while Jimenez absorbed his first loss.

- 6 rounds Super Bantamweight: Jay-R Aliasot (3-1-0, 3KO) of Ormoc, Leyte stops Holly Quinones (1-6-1, 0KO) of General Santos City with a liver shot at 1:50 of the first round.
