PINAY BOWS IN WBC WORLD TITLE FIGHT
By Lito delos Reyes PhilBoxing.com Tue, 07 Jun 2016

FILIPINA challenger Norj Guro suffered a damaged nose and lost by a knockout in the 8th round against defending World Boxing Council (WBC) world female minimumweight champion Yuko Kuroki in their title-fight held Monday night at the Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.
Guro's nose started bleeding already in the third round after constantly being hit by Kuroki?s stinging left jabs.
But despite the bleeding, Guro continued to trade punches with Kuroki especially in the fifth and seventh rounds.
However, referee Thawuth Pluemsamran of Thailand finally stopped the fight in 2:09 of the 8th round after the continuous blood dropping from Guro?s nose.
?The long lay-off affected Guro?s movements. She was very slow compared to her previous fight last year in Mexico,? said manager Brico Santig in a text message.
Before the stoppage, Guro was also already behind Kuroki in the scorecards of the three judges - Noppharat Sricharoen (70-62), Yuji Fukuchi (70-62) and Fernando Batistil (67-65).
The 25-year old Japanese southpaw improved her record to 16 wins with 8 knockouts against 4 loses and 1 draw while Guro suffered her 6th defeat against 7 wins and 1 draw.
It was the 4th title-defense of Kuroki of the crown she won from fellow Japanese Mari Ando via a unanimous decision last April 17, 2014 in Osaka, Japan. She previously retained it by a split decision only against Katia Gutierrez of Mexico in her first title-defense on November 1, 2014 in Fukuoka, Japan.
Guro, in her last outing, bowed by a unanimous decision to Mexican Jessica Chavez on April 11, 2015 in Sinaloa, Mexico.
