CEBU PROVINCIAL SUMMER GAMES BOXING EVENT 2016 GETS UNDERWAY

A province-wide summer sports event for priority sports including boxing will be sponsored by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission and is a grassroots sports development program. It aims to discover potential athletes that will represent the province in future provincial, regional and national tournaments and in keeping the momentum of the province's sports programs, as stated in the official Facebook page of the Cebu Provincial Government.
The opening ceremonies was held at the Balamban Cultural Center last May 20 and different games immediately started after the formalities. Boxing was scheduled to start on the same day at the northern town of Tuburan but organisers decided to cancel the event for some reasons. It will now be held at the Cebu City Sports Center on Wednesday 25th May. Winners of the said event get a chance to suit up for Team Cebu Province in the coming Batang Pinoy Visayas eliminations, slated in Ormoc City later this year.
The sport has been a productive source of medal haul for the local team, particularly in last year's Philippine Youth Games/ Batang Pinoy National Championships as it contributed two gold medals courtesy of Berlan Robles of Talisay City and Alexander Bonita of Mandaue City, silver medal by Keyt Nino Bacalso Abatayo, also of Talisay City and bronze medals from Mandaue City pugs in it's tally.
