THE STORM IS COMING BACK

PhilBoxing.com

Two time world title challenger Milan "El Metodico" Melindo (33-2, 12KOs) of the famed ALA Boxing Gym will once again step into the ring to fight and avenge his controversial defeat against Javier "Cobra" Mendoza (24-3-1, 24KOs) of Mexico for the IBF Jr. Flyweight Eliminator. The Melindo-Mendoza bout is the supporting main event to the longest-reigning Filipino champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes title defense against Mexico's Raul "Rayita" Garcia for Pinoy Pride 36 dubbed as "A Legend in The Making" at La Salle Coliseum in Bacolod City this May 28, 2016.

In a press conference last April at the Social in Ayala Center Cebu, Melindo told the media American referee Gerard White's call should have been to his favor. During his first confrontation with Mendoza late May of last year, White stopped the fight after Mendoza inflicted a nasty cut in his left eye and insisted that it was because of a head-butt. In response, White then went on to the scorecards only to announce Mendoza as the winner when it should have been a 6th round TKO for Melindo.

Melindo got his title as "El Metodico" because he is known to be one of the finest tactical fighters, but Melindo said that for his rematch against the 25-year old Mendoza, he will bring back his old form, back when he was named after a great typhoon who brought destruction in the Philippines and Vietnam, "Milenyo". Milan said that he feels no pressure for his upcoming fight and is excited to have his rematch in his home turf, because he feels that one of the factors which helped Mendoza during their last clash were the cheers of the hometown crowd in Mexico rooting for his opponent. When asked about the fighters' training, ALA Chief Trainer Edmund Villamor said that they are ready against Mendoza and that Milan should be in his best condition to give a good fight.

Whoever rises as the victor will have a mandatory shot for the IBF belt which is now held by Japanese Akira Yaegashi.

Pinoy Pride 36: A Legend in the Making is presented by ALA Promotions International and Abs-cbn Sports in association with RD Pawnshop, The Social, L'Fisher Hotel, L'Fisher Chalet, L'Fisher Ecotel, Steel Art Billboards Inc., Fungisol, St. Mark Hotel, Robinsons Place Bacolod, 888 Chinatown Square, The ALA Boxing Gym, Love Radio, and DYEZ Aksyon Radyo.
