SAMMY 'THE CHINOOK' WILLIAMS READY FOR STATE TITLE SHOT

PhilBoxing.com

Williams VS Thomas for the Victorian State featherweight title.

SAMMY 'CHINOOK' WILLIAMS IS OFTEN referred to as the quiet achiever of Smithy's TGW Gym. Williams quietly goes about his business and often flys under the radar. Now 'The Chinook' is set to fly into the spotlight. Williams travels to Melbourne this weekend to take on Shaun Thomas for the Victorian State super featherweight title.

"This is a big opportunity for me," Williams said.

"A big thanks to my manager and trainer Brendon Smith for creating this opportunity for me.

"It would mean a lot to me to win a Victorian State title, especially down there against a Victorian in Melbourne.

"I've had a great preparation working alongside the likes of Jack Asis, Will Young, Steven Spark and many more.

"I'll have to box smart in this one and that's what I plan on doing.

"It's the biggest challenge of my career and one I feel I'm equal to.

"Win,lose or draw I'll give it my best and hopefully that's good enough to secure a win."

The Chinook has quietly built an impressive pro record with three wins, two draws and just the one loss in a six fight career to date.

It will be his first fight outside Queensland.

"I'm really excited about this one," Williams trainer/manager Brendon Smith said.

"He's such a pleasure to train, he never complains, he just works hard and quietly goes about his business.

"I've said it before I would love to train one hundred fighters just like Sammy 'the Chinook' Williams.

"This is a tough fight for Sammy, Shaun Thomas will have home crowd advantage and is a good boxer.

"However I'm confident the chinook has done the work and if he performs at his best he will be hard to beat."

Following his State title bout in Melbourne on Saturday night Williams will return to Toowoomba and has vowed to continue to help a number of his gym mates who will feature on the TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 13 card on May 13.

"So many of the fighters on this card on May 13 like Jack Asis, Steven Spark, Brent Rice, Will Young and many more have played a big role in my preparation for Saturday," Williams said.

"On my return my number one priority is to assist any of my training partners in anyway I can in the lead up to May 13.

"The best thing about being a part of Smithy's TGW gym is we all help each other out and we all support each other 100%"

"After this fight my number one priority is to be the best team mate I can be.

"As excited as I am about my State title shot on Saturday night I'm equally excited about the May 13 card up here.

"It's a great card and I hope all of Toowoomba comes along and supports it."
