ALDEGUER: ?IT'S BACK TO THE DRAWING BOARD FOR MAGSAYO?
By Dong Secuya PhilBoxing.com Sun, 24 Apr 2016

CEBU ? In the aftermath of undefeated featherweight Mark 'Magnifico' Magsayo's 6th round demolition of former world title challenger Chris Avalos Saturday night at the Cebu City Sports Center in front of a massive crowd of upwards to 30,000, Magsayo's promoter and ALA Promotions president Michael Aldeguer said that he won't let himself get too much carried away with the victory.
?I'm happy that Mark won over a tough and tested foe,? Aldeguer told Philboxing. ?I'm happy to learn that Magsayo has the heart to pick himself up from an obstacle. But he also had some glaring weaknesses during the fight that were exposed. We're going to go back to the drawing board and try to correct his weakness,? Aldeguer said.
Magsayo, who almost always starts fast, came out blazing with a two-fisted assault on Avalos who absorbed heavy punishment and almost went down in the second round but turned the tables on Magsayo in the third as Magsayo appeared to have expended too much energy in trying to take out the visiting American. Magsayo picked himself up from the canvas in the third and after surviving the fourth round, resumed the heavy beating on Avalos who was clearly out of his feet by the end of the fifth round.
?Mark is still young and he has a lot to learn,? Aldeguer said who decided not to include Magsayo in the July 9 San Mateo, California card where Magsayo was originally in the line up. ?With that kind of fight, Mark needs to rest now. We will put him up instead on the big September card in Carson in the Philippines vs Mexico card.?
Adeguer also informed he will have Magsayo trained with Roach in Los Angeles for the September card. ?Roach likes him a lot so that's our plan. We will bring him to the US to train with Roach,? Aldeguer added.
