GABEJAN HAMMERED IN GAB APPROVED MISMATCH AGAINST UNBEATEN MARIO BARRIOS By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Mon, 18 Apr 2016 ![]() In a terrible mismatch approved by the Games and Amusements Board, IBF No. 15 Super featherweight contender Mario Barrios hammered Filipino Edgar Gabejan who is not even ranked in the top 15 in the February GAB ratings. Barrios remained unbeaten and improved to 15-0 with 8 knockouts while the hapless Gabejan dropped to as miserable 26-33-6 with 9 knockouts and although promoters tried to build up the mismatch claiming Gabejan was a veteran of 500 rounds, it mean?t nothing. Ringside reports from Barclays Center in New York said Barrios ?came out guns blazing? out and dropped the Filipino in the very first round. Barrios who stands over six feet towered over Gabejan and made full use of his height and reach advantage. Barrios connected with perfection and landed precise punches throughout the remainder of the fight. Gabejan made it to the final bell but was severely beaten up. All three judges scored a 80-71 shutout. With the win Barrios hopes to get back in the ring as soon as possible and is eyeing a world title fight by the end of the year. In a post fight interview Barrios said "I'm happy with my performance tonight. My opponent showed a lot of heart and making it to the final bell. Going the full eight rounds was a great experience for me.? Barrios dominated a one sided slow and ugly type of fight. He delivered a strong right to Gabejan which may have broken his nose, though Gabajen labored through and reached the final bell of an 8 round contest.
