AL BERNSTEIN: MARTIN VS. JOSHUA PART OF HEAVYWEIGHT RESURGENCE
PhilBoxing.com Mon, 04 Apr 2016
Hall of Fame Boxing announcer Al Bernstein feels the emerging interest in the heavyweight division will get a ?significant boost" in the coming months with several high profile fights, including the April 9 match between IBF titleholder Charles Martin and Olympic Champion Anthony Joshua.
Bernstein said, ?The results of this match will help clarify the major players in the division. The winner makes himself a key figure in the now energized division. With the other titleholders Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder both defending their crowns in coming months, we will see who moves forward. The Martin-Joshua match is kind of a surprise entry into this sweepstakes, but a welcome one.? For Al?s full analysis of the Martin-Joshua match see his Quick Hits video at www.youtube.com/AlsBoxingHangouts.
The SHOWTIME BOXING INTERNATIONAL presentation of Martin vs. Joshua will air live on SHOWTIME at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT on Saturday, April 9 from The O2 in London. An encore presentation will air later that evening on SHOWTIME EXTREME at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
Bernstein will work alongside host Brian Custer and co-analyst Paulie Malignaggi from a studio in New York with live coverage of the fight provided by Sky Sports.
The SHOWTIME telecast will include extensive highlights and analysis of the IBF Featherweight World Championship between defending titlist Lee Selby and American challenger Eric Hunter.
