NIETES LEADS BOXING AWARDEES IN CEBU'S SAC AWARDS 2016

THE Sportswriters Association of Cebu will hold the annual SAC-San Miguel Beer Sports Awards on March 30 at the Robinson's Galleria atrium.

The annual event, now on its 34th year, will fete the most outstanding Cebuanos and Cebu-based athletes for 2015.

Among those who will receive awards this year are the Cebuanos who played for the Philippines in the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore last year--Mary Joy Tabal, Rinna Babanto, Rubilen Amit, Warren Kiamco, Alexis Sy, Jomar Jumapao, Dixie Yu, Aiumi Ono, Madille Salinas, Richard Gonzales, Rheyjhey Ortouste, Weiwei Gao and Gretchel Soltones.

Donnie Nietes, the Philippines longest-reigning world champion and a multiple Athlete of the Year awardee, will also receive a major award, while fellow pro fighters Mark Magsayao, Kenny Demecillo, Marlon Tapales and Arthur Villanueva will receive citations. Kevin Jake Cataraja, now a pro, will receive a citation for his feats in the amateur ranks in 2015along with John Nino Vega, Vicente Sios-e, Eduardo Jimenez, Alexander Bonito, Berland Robles and Dominic Casanares.

?We're proud of our Cebu athletes; among them the longest reinging Filipino world boxing champion, the country's top long-distance runner, the country's most dominant basketball player and a list of national team members,? said SAC president Rico Navarro of the Freeman.

Aside from Nietes, the other major awardees this year are June Mar Fajardo, Jerish John Velarde and Richard Bitoon for chess, Lloyd Jefferson Go and Charles Hong for golf, Daniela dela Pisa for gymnastics, Kiyomi Watanabe for judo, Rafael Vidal for karatedo, Ken Caniga for Muay Thai and Raven Faith Alcoseba for swimming.

Those who will receive citations this year are Shanelle Siasoyco, Edel Dela Fuente and Mart John Torregosa for athletics, Vincent Villa for archery, the Central Visayas teams that won the boys gold and the elementary boys and girls team tie in the Palarong Pambansa, Southwestern University Badminton team, Kristine Acuna, Jasper Cabrera, Oscar Bradshaw IV, Ben Maravilles and Isaac Bacarisas for batted sports.

Dondon Hontiveros, Jed Colonia, coach Jefferson Codera, Team Pura, the University of San Carlos Warriors, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu will receive citations for basketball along with pros Sonny Thoss and Terrence Romeo, who have roots in Cebu.

Others who will receive citation are Xyrra Cabusas and GJ Buyco for bowling, Josephine Teria and Dennis Delgado for body building, Andres Calma for car racing, Laila Nadera for chess, Nino Surban, John Mier, Jun Duron, Aaliyah Mataragnon, Frederic Chiongbian for cycling, Pearl Caneda and Wilbert Aunza for dancesport, Alexandrea Gumilao, Leo Maquiling, Kyle Ronquillo, Jessie Riel Semblante, Major Dean Ebarle, Lawrence Colina, Jake Vicen, Kintaro Miyagi, Jordan Jarvis, Dominique Canonigo, Mark Arranguez and Raphael de Guzman for football, Lovely Gitaruelas for jiu jitsu, Orencio James Virgil delos Santos and Tracy Lynn Basalo for karatedo, Jubenile Abellar for motocross, Reynante dela Cerna for scrabble, Paul Bryant Yu for shooting, Maxime Rooney, Jasmine Alkhadi, Michael Ichiro Kong and Loren Dale Echavez for swimming, Berto Bas for table tennis, Veronica Garces, Dineson Caneda, Nichole Maurin, Lee Robeigayle Navales, Aidaine Laxa, Cheyena dela Fuente and Moises Bullicer for taekwondo.

Elsie Abarquez and Zethley Mae Alferez will also receive citations for tennis, while Issa Priagula, Jundeb Ande Esquivel, Ralph Edward So, Yuan Chiongbian, Aaliyah Mataragnon, John Philip Duenas, Joseph Miller and Tenggoy Colmenares will receive citations in triathlon. Edward Ybanez, Danika Gendrauli, Jade Bacaldo and Edmar Bonono will also receive citations for beach volleyball.

Other teams that will receive citations this year are the University of San Carlos elementary and high school boys and girls chess teams, Paref Springdale high school football, and the University of San-Jose Recoletos scrabble for winning the gold medal in the Milo Little Olympics National Finals. Leylam FC, the Cebu Lady Dragons, University of Cebu table tennis and Suzuki BMR Zic Racing Team will also receive citations. Pooled Report.
