NBA --- Bulls ground Rockets, snap four-game skid By Maria Macatangay PhilBoxing.com Sun, 06 Mar 2016 CHICAGO -- With their playoffs berth in doubt, the Chicago Bulls played inspired and energetic basketball on Saturday night, beating the Houston Rockets, 108-100, at the United Center Jimmy Butler returned from an 11-game absence (knee strain) and helped spark the Bulls attack with 24 points and 11 rebounds. The two-way All-Star guard showed little rust, shooting 6-of-13 from the field. Derrick Rose pushed the tempo all night, charging in with 17 points and nine dimes. Nikola Mirotic, who also returned from an extended absence due to an appendectomy, chipped in a modest seven points. But it was center Pau Gasol who shined the most for the Bulls, who ended a four-game skid and moved back into the playoffs picture with a 31-30 card, a slim half-game ahead of the 31-31 Detroit Pistons for the 8th spot in the Eastern Conference. Gasol logged in another double-double, 27 points and 17 rebounds, including four free throws that helped Chicago wrap up the W after the Rockets came to within 104-100 with 34.8 seconds left to play. "Twenty one games. We have a quarter of the season. That's a lot of games," Gasol told NBA.com as the Bulls tried to make a postseason push. James Harden exploded for 36 points but his offensive exhibition wasn't enough to save a Rockets team that made only 35 of 87 field goals (40.2 percent) and 9 of 35 triples (25.7 percent). Dwight Howard shot 3-of-9 from the field and left a little imprint on the game's outcome with just nine points and 12 rebounds. Corey Brewer tallied 12 for Houston while veteran Trevor Ariza had 11.
