PP35 UNDERCARD RESULTS: SANTISIMA SURVIVES KNOCKDOWN TO STOP DECEMILLO IN 6; JERUSALEM OUTPOINTS CONDES

PhilBoxing.com

CEBU CITY ? True to its billing, the super bantamweight matchup between two power punchers Jeo Santisima and Marco Demecillo produced all the sparks needed to put the jampacked Waterfront Hotel crowd at the edge of their seats while the fight lasted to compensate the underwhelming performance of the headliners on 'Pinoy Pride 35: Stars of the Future' Saturday night.

Right from the get go, Santisima (9-2-0, 7KO) of Masbate and Demecillo (21-5-1, 16KO) of Iligan City exchanged bombs after bombs. A left jab followed by a left uppercut by Demecillo that smacked squarely on the chin sending Santisima to the canvas early in the second round. Santisima beat the count but Demecillo put on the pressure and tried to finish the fight but Santisima weathered the storm and and even coming back strong towards the end of the round.

The third and fourth rounds continued in the same vein with both boxers connecting with hard punches.

An overhand right to the temple followed by a left cross buckled Demecillo towards the end of the fifth round. Santisima appeared to take control in the 6th where he connected with with several punches upstairs. Moments later, a well-timed left hook by Santisima that landed perfectly on Demecillo's liver abruptly ended the contest when Demecillo turned his back wrenching in pain as the referee waived of the contest at 1:07 of the sixth round.

Santisima notched his 7th straight knockout victory while Demecillo registered another loss but is always is a crowd pleaser to his never say die style.

Santisima (L) jabs at Demecillo.

Jerusalem (L) throws a right at Condes.

In an 8-round minimumweight bout, Melvin Jerusalem (9-0-0, 7KO) used his superior speed to befuddle former world champion Florante Condes (27-9-1, 23KO) the whole night piling up point with quick his combinations and ran away with a majority decision win, 78-74, 78-74 and 76-76.

Jerusalem and Condes started cautiously after the opening bell with neither fighter committing much although it was clear that Condes, nicknamed 'Little Pacquiao' was immediately looking to throw his haymaker that could take out Jerusalem in an instant. In the second round, Jerusalem, begun to connect with his combinations coming in and immediately coming out in an instant. As the fight progressed the southpaw Condes was visibly frustrated by not being able to catch his slippery opponent and at one instance, crashed to the canvas after throwing and missing a wild left overhand. In the closing rounds, Condes, 35, appeared winded down as Jerusalem, 19, continued to pepper him with fast combinations.

Cataraja (L) connects with a left at Rodriguez.

In an 8-round flyweight bout, highly regarded prospect Kevin Jake Cataraja (3-0-0, 2KO) administered a beatdown on Tony Rodriguez (3-2-0, 1KO) of Mexico although the durable Mexican lasted the enitre fight. Rodriguez sustained a big lump under his right eye after the fight.

Traya (R) puts on the pressure on Jakosalem.

In an 8-round super lightweight match-up, Elmo Traya (11-1-0, 8KO) scored a majority decision over the out of shape Romero Jakosalem (16-12-1, 6KO). Jakosalem tried weather the aggression of the younger Traya with ring smarts wisely eluding Traya's big bombs by flailing and moving side to side. Although Traya had his way in the early rounds, he became too predictable for Jakosalem who potshot his way in the later rounds although Jakosalem appeared too tired to mount a sustained attack while exposing Traya's lack of offensive arsenal. Scores: 78-74, 77-75 and 76-76.
