42 YEAR OLD JAPANESE SHIN ISHIKAWA WINS BY 1ST ROUND KO IN MIDDLEWEIGHT DEBUT AGAINST ARNOLD GARCIA

PhilBoxing.com

42 year old Japanese middleweight Shin Ishikawa made his debut a winning one with a 1st round knockout of 38 year old Filipino Arnold Garcia in a United International Promotions card in Taguig City last Saturday that produced smiles on the faces of Japanese promoter Ryuta Kato and executive director Warren Evison.

Ishikawa a giant of a man standing 5?11? compared to the 5?7? of Garcia conceded 14 pounds in weight (161 to 175) - but it made no difference as the Japanese went after Garcia and battered him with a series of wild but powerful punches that dropped the Filipino for the full count at 2:07 of the opening round in a battle of southpaws.

It was Garcia?s 4th loss as against 2 wins both of which came by way of knockouts although he lost in his last fight for the vacant IBO Oceania super middleweight title by a 1st round knockout to to Vinnie Caruana of Australia on April 10, 2015.

The other Japanese winner was Masazumi Furukawa of the United Boxing Gym in Tokyo who scored a 1st round TKO victory over Benjie Bartolome of the Obidos Boxing Stable in Baguio City in a super flyweight bout scheduled for six rounds..

Furukawa was coming off a 6th round unanimous decision loss to Ernie Mino Jr last July 11, 2015 in Mandaluyong City.

Determined to win, the 39 year old Furukawa was the aggressor from the opening bell and had the 33 year old Bartolome in trouble from the opening bell as he connected with a flurry of punches before referee Jerrold Tomeldan stopped the contest at 2:19 of the very first round.

With the win Furukawa improved his record to 7-7-2 with 2 knockouts while Bartolome fell to 2-10-1 with no knockouts to his name.

In his last fight Bartolone lost by a 4th round tKO to Lorenz Ladrada on November 30, 2014 in Angono, Rizal.
