IBO INT?L CHAMPION DACQUEL WINS COMFORTABLY OVER MATEO HANDIG IN TEN ROUND, NON TITLE BOUT
By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Tue, 23 Feb 2016

IBO nternational super flyweight champion Rene Dacquel scored a comfortable unanimous decision over Mateo Handig in a ten-round non-title bout at the Taguig Sports Complex last Saturday in a fight card promoted by United International Promotions headed by Japan?s Ryuta Kato and executive director Warren Evison.
Dacquel who was coming off a twelve round unanimous decision loss to Japan?s Takuma Inoue in an Oriental Pacific Boxing Federation title fight last December 29 started cautiously against Handig who was also coming off a 3rd round KO loss to Benjain Mananquil last September 6.
Dacquel soon settled down and began to hammer Handig with some solid combinations, often catching him against the ropes with ripping shots to the body and head.
The 25 year old Dacquel out-punched the 26 year old southpaw Handig and went on to win comfortably on the scorecards of all three judges.
British judge Robert Bridges, a resident of Angeles City, Pampanga had Dacquel the winner 98-92 while Jerrold Tomeldan and Oliver Garcia turned in identical 97-93 scorecards in favor of Dacquel who improved to 15-6-1 with 5 knockouts while Handig fell to 13-10 with 7 knockouts.
