BARANGAY LAGTANG RULES 10,000 BC BOXING CLUB BOX-OFFS By Felman Gingoyon PhilBoxing.com Mon, 01 Feb 2016 A huge crowd showed up last Saturday night at 10,000 BC Boxing Gym in Barangay Lagtang as family members, friends and boxing enthusiasts from different barangays in Talisay City cheered their respective fighters to victory. The night showcased a very competitive and entertaining girl?s boxing which showed that the sport is indeed not just for men but also a "girly" thing. Blessed Hope Bacus of Lagtang scores a unanimous win over Princess Bago in school girls, pinweight division in the main event of the card. After an exciting third stanza, both female pugs looked exhausted towards the end of the round. Bacus? style and accurate punching proved effective against a lanky and swarming style of Bago to score a close decision victory. A split decision gave volume-punching Janine Basnillo, also of Lagtang her first open boxing victory, edging out Precious Bago in 40 kgs. division. Another Lagtang female fighter, Ellah Mae Igloria used her physical advantage to outpoint Claire Tecson in kids, vacuumweight class. Three Mamao brothers saved the day for Barangay Tabunok as they registered separate victories over their opponents. First to secure a win was Alinor, who defeated Jomar Sabado of Barangay Lawa-an in kids vacuumweight. Next came was a UD win courtesy of Omair against James Briones in school boys pinweight. Eldest Mamao brother, Alinaer defeated Mark Anthony Mandawe via SD in 50 kgs. weight class. Vacuumweight Justin Trazo of Barangay Biasong outscores Win Cabradilla of Tabunok. Lagtang boxer Christian Gabriel Gingoyon utilized a steady stream of pinpoint punching to outclass Jose Ortega of Tabunok in kids, powderweight division. Tabunok fighter Carlos Canedo made a good statement of himself in the first round against recent Batang Pinoy National Championships silver medalist Keyt Nino Bacalso Abatayo of Lagtang. Unfortunately, he was not able to maintain his momentum and eventually succumbed to Bacalso?s innate boxing skills, losing the bout via UD in school boys mosquitoweight. Marvin Pomar of Barangay Poblacion and Berlan Robles waged a memorable battle of skill and guts but the latter?s veteran smarts proved too much for the reigning Philippine National Youth Games champion, winning their junior boys flyweight bout via UD. This box-offs is planned to be a monthly event by gym organizers and is a way to provide exposure to fighters in Talisay City area. A grassroots initiative is aiming to discover new boxing talents that will represent Cebu in different national boxing tournaments in the coming months.
