The 20-year-old, a national and international champion at 132, who was a member of the 2013-2015 USA Boxing Elite Men's National Team, will begin his professional career at super featherweight. "Signing with Golden Boy Promotions is a dream come true for me," said Genaro Gamez. "Oscar De La Hoya's career was a great inspiration for me when I began competing and I am excited to have his company represent me and guide me into this new phase of my career." "Genaro Gamez had a solid amateur career but now it's time for him to step up into the big leagues, and I'm pleased that he chose Golden Boy Promotions to work with on his next journey as a professional fighter," said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. Gold medal winner at the 2014 USA Boxing National Championship and rated the number one fighter in the U.S. at 132 pounds, Genaro "El Conde" Gamez of San Diego, Calif. began boxing at seven-years-old. Finally at 16 years old the skilled amateur competed in his first tournament at the 2013 USA Boxing National Championships and secured a silver medal in the process. Selected as one of the members of the USA Boxing Elite Men's National Team, Gamez had a breakout year in 2014 winning a gold medal at the USA Boxing Nationals and the Independence Cup, silver in the Chepo Aponte Tournament and bronze in the Feliks Stamm Tournament. In 2015, Gamez secured another silver medal at the USA Boxing Nationals and obtains a silver medal at the Men's Trails Olympic qualifier.
