GESTA FINALLY SET FOR A U.S. FIGHT AGAINST MEXICAN
By Salven L. Lagumbay PhilBoxing.com Wed, 11 Jul 2007
Undefeated featherweight prospect Mercito 'Guerrero' Gesta, who has been in the US for several months, will finally get a chance to show his wares to the American fans as he tackles Mexican Carlos Madrid in a six-round encounter on July 27 at the Isleta Casino Resort in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA.
Although Gesta remains unbeaten in eleven fights, he has been inactive for a year and a half and has reportedly ballooned to a junior welterweight according to sources.
Gesta, a talented sharp-shooter with good lateral skills, last saw action on December 16, 2005 when he prevailed on a seventh-round technical decision over Lee Escobido in North Cotabato.
Madrid, a 29-year-old fighter based in El Paso, Texas, holds a record of 8 wins, 3 losses, 2 draws with 2 KO's, but has been active with three fights this year.
The Gesta-Madrid showdown will be on the undercard of the Martin Castillo-Oscar Andrade 12-rounder.
Also seeing action is Ray Sanchez versus Travis Hartman (8 rds); Austin Trout versus Nelson Estupinan (6 rds); and four 4-round match-ups.
