Undercard Bout Announced for Jan. 29: Brent Moore vs Ashley Stephens

PhilBoxing.com

MOORE STEPS IN WITH CHAMPION AMATEUR

Former amateur champion Ashley Stephens to make his pro debut against Brent Moore on TGW & Smithy Bring the Big Fights 12.

RISING STARS BRENT MOORE AND ASHLEY STEVENS have been announced as the first undercard fight for the January 29 card headlined by the re-match between Herman Ene-Purcell and Paul Gallen.

The exciting duo will meet in a middleweight contest.

Moore, trained out of Smithy's TGW Gym is 1-0 in the pro ranks after a spectacular round one TKO victory against Beau Holdsworth on the Gold Coast in August.

"Brent Moore is an exciting prospect," Promoter Brendon Smith said.

"He turned plenty of heads on debut and was due to fight Robbie Fletcher on our last card in October but unfortunately Robbie was injured close to the fight so Brent missed out.

"He hasn't stopped training and now gets his chance on this big card in January," Smith said.

Ashley Stephens will travel up from the Gold Coast for his professional debut. He's trained out of the Ifightfit Gym by Ashley Buck.

"Ashley is excited to make his debut on such a big card," Ashley Buck said.

"He has a great pedigree, his uncle Norm Stephens fought at the Moscow Olympics.

"Ashley himself had a great amateur career missing out on a spot in the Olympic trials after losing a bout by just one point to the Nauru champ.

"He's ready for the pros," Buck said.

After missing out in October Brent Moore hopes the wait is worth it come January 29.

"It was disappointing when Robbie Fletcher was injured prior to our proposed October showdown, but that's boxing," Moore said.

"I'm just thankful Brendon Smith has been able to find me a fight on this big card.

"It's going to be exciting to be a part of it.

"Ashley Stephens was a great amateur and I'm sure he will be tough to beat in the pro's.

"It's a challenge but I'm confident I can answer the challenge," Moore said.

The Brent Moore vs Ashley Stephens bout is the first big announcement about the support bouts to the Gallen Ene-Purcell showdown.

"The undercard will showcase some of the country's up and coming talent.

"Brent Moore and Ashley Stephens certainly fit into that category.

"I'm sure Brent Moore can make an impact in the middleweight division and Ashley Stephens is proven in the amateurs and I'm sure he will make a great pro.

"He also comes from a great gym and has a great trainer in Ashley Buck.

"I know Ashley will be fit and strong, there is no doubt about that.

"This will be a great fight.

"We will have further announcements regarding the undercard in the coming weeks," Smith said.
