NBA -- Bucks foil Warriors' streak at 24 By Nick Osen PhilBoxing.com Mon, 14 Dec 2015 MILWAUKEE -- Before a sold-out crowd of 18,717 fans at the BMO Harris Bradley Center, the Milwaukee Bucks upset Golden State 108-95, ending the Warriors' historic 24-0 streak to start the season. Reigning league MVP Steph Curry led the Warriors with 28 points, while Greg ?Moose? Monroe paced the Bucks' balanced attack with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Khris Middeton and OJ ?Juice? Mayo started the night off aggressively for Milwaukee, hitting a couple jumpers to help put the home team up 14-5 early. Curry then reeled off seven quick points to pull within two making it 18-16. Draymond Green of the Warriors had a monster and-one jam and the Bucks rushed several possessions to end an exciting first quarter, up 30-28. The second quarter was dominated by the Bucks, and specifically by Juice and Jabari Parker. Mayo kept up his hot shooting, and Parker looked like his old Duke self, being very aggressive around the rim and finishing in traffic. Milwaukee went into the intermission up 59-48, and the BMO Harris Bradley center was rocking. To no one's surprise though, the defending champs came out strong in the second half, led by a beautiful crossover and-one play by Steph Curry, and a tough baseline slam by Brandon Rush, turning it into just a three point deficit after the third, 80-77. Milwaukee opened the final quarter with some really aggressive and gutsy play, turning the score to 85-77 with about nine minutes left. Michael Carter-Williams demonstrated his play making and leadership abilities in the fourth quarter, allowing the Bucks stretch their lead to 12 with under seven minutes to play, 91-79. The Warriors appeared to have one more run in them, but the Bucks decided to feed their free-agent acquisition Greg Monroe during four out of five possessions, scoring in the paint every time, and putting the game out of reach to eventually seal the win 108-95. There is no question this Bucks team could at least be a contender in the Eastern Conference this season. They have one of the most talented starting fives in the conference, and they?ve shown they can play with the best as they?ve knocked off Cleveland and now Golden State at home. The key for this young squad will be treating every game like it?s the playoffs, even if it is against a lesser opponent. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Nick Osen. |
