By Ronnie Nathanielsz PhilBoxing.com Fri, 04 Dec 2015

Richard Claveras won the vacant WBC International light flyweight title with an impressive twelve round unanimous decision over a resilient Jerry Tomogdan at the Highway Integrated Schools Gymnasium in Mandaluyong City on Wednesday night.
The 26 year old Claveras dropped Tomogdan in round one with a well-timed counter left hook that sent Tomogdan through the ropes and then dropped him again in the second round this time with a counter right hook but failed to finish off the game Tomogdan who was also sent to the canvas one more time in round seven with a right straight.
With the win Claveras who was comfortably ahead after the first four rounds and then again after eight rounds in the open scoring system of the WBC eventually won handily with all three judges scoring the fight for Claveras who improved his record to 14-1-2 with 12 knockouts while the 22 year old Tomogdan dropped to 18-7-3 with 8 knockouts.
Judge Jerrold Tomeldan scored it 115,110, Oliver Garcia 116-108 and Fernando Batistil 119-106 all for Claveras.
The only loss of Claveras was to WBC champion Pedro Guevara of Mexico last April 11 when he started off aggressively but got caught with a perfect counter-punch to the midsection and was counted out.
Claveras came back from the setback to score a unanimous twelve round decision over Benezer Alolod last July 11 to set up the
WBC International title shot.
Tomogdan lost by a 9th round knockout to Thailand?s world champion Wanheng Menayothin in Bangkok last June 2 but won a 6th round decision in a ?stay busy? fight against Jheron Tumor last September 13.
