2015 PHILIPPINE NATIONAL YOUTH GAMES GETS ON TRACK IN CEBU

PhilBoxing.com

Young athletes, coaches and officials gather in the Queen City of the South to compete in different sporting disciplines. The premier and most prestigious multi sporting event for young boys and girls, popularly known as "Batang Pinoy" unfolded earlier today at the Cebu City Sports Complex. More than 5,000 athletes are expected to participate in this national championships after the zone eliminations in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao months earlier. Cebu City will host most of the events, including boxing but other games will be played in Danao City, Mandaue City and Cebu Province. These three local government units are also the co-hosts to this Olympic-style competition. Games will formally start tomorrow and is expected to conclude on the 2nd of December.

Cebu Coliseum to play host to the boxing event

The historic Cebu Coliseum will once again be the venue of a big boxing event. Seats will more likely be filled in with rabid boxing fans as 12 to 15 year old open boxing pugs compete for the right to be called national champions in the kids and school boys division. General weigh-in, medical examinations and official draw will take place early morning tomorrow and preliminary bouts will probably start around 3 pm. Team Tayabas and Mandaluyong City, this year's Luzon leg champion are expected to perform well for Luzon. Host cities Cebu and Mandaue, as well as Cebu Province and defending Visayas area champions Maasin City are anticipated to take charge for Visayas. Not to be outdone, Mindanao will be strongly represented in perennial boxing powerhouses MisOr, Panabo City and GenSan.

ABAP conducts refresher course for referees and judges

To enhance the smooth flow of activities during the tournament proper, Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines conducted a 2-day refresher course for referees and judges. It included an in-depth lecture on the AIBA Open Boxing technical and competition rules, a written and practical examination. The seminar was conducted by AIBA 3-star R/J's Maximo Abalos, PhD and Cildo Evasco. A coaches seminar will also be conducted later on with national coaches Ronald Chavez and Pat Gaspi.
