DANGGOD DEFEATS DE ASIS IN FARCICAL FIGHT

PhilBoxing.com

Veteran Celso Danggod scored a lopsided ten round decision over rugged Mario De Asis in what turned out to be a farcical fight because of a soaking wet canvas caused by cornermen bathing the fighters in water in-between rounds which caused them to slip and slide all throughout. The fghters were not to be blamed and gave their best in very difficult conditions which caused long delays.

Fight fans will get a chance to see what happened when the bouts are telecast over the top-rated weekly boxing show “The Main Event” over RPN 9 at 4:00 p.m. on Sundays sponsored by Tanduay, the No.1 Rhum, Pagcor and PCSO.

Referee Ver Abainza who should have, by all accounts, stopped the farce and declared it a no-contest added to the problem by failing to warn or deduct any points from Danggod for hitting De Asia when he was down after a slip and also throwing him down on the canvas with a wrestling move. In contrast Abainza was quick to warn or penalize De Asia against the fighter of Barangay Captain Victor Ulanday who hosted the event at the covered court next to the Bliss housing project.

The fight lasted well over an hour because of the numerous interruptions and spoiled what was an otherwise entertaining card promoted by Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde before a huge crowd who enjoyed every moment of the action.

Promising Jason Igera, fighting a ten rounder for the first time improved his record to 8-1 with 3 knockouts with a smashing unanimous shutout decision over veteran Jun Magsipoc who was battered throughout but survived the twp-fisted battering from the southpaw and got in a few licks of his own towards the end of the bout.

Raymond “Foreman” Sermona had a hard time against veteran Jongjong Gagante and was held to a split draw in a close fight while former amateur standout Warlito Parenas scored a good win over Jeno Quilatar in a six round light flyweight bout to improve his record to 3-1 with 1 knockout. Parenas is trained and managed by former Australian boxer Terrance Mogg whose stable of women boxers continue to impress.

Marnelle Verano, a former amateur, put on an accomplished performance to score a unanimous decision over rugged and game Babay Tekok winning all four rounds even decking her opponent with a solid combination and should go far because of her classic boxing style.

In the other slambang bouts Mark Saloma beat young Sylvester Lopez, Agapito Bulima hammered Japeth Martin and Ronelle Ferreras proved too good for game youngster Alvin Cruel.
