IN MAASIM: Mepranum, Tabamo weigh-in Nov. 13

PhilBoxing.com

Mepranum.
FORMER world title challenger Richie "Magnum" Mepranum and his opponent Marjhunn Tabamo will finally see each other in tomorrow?s official weigh-in for their 12-rounder 115-pounder main header on Saturday at the Maasim Municipal gym in Sarangani Province.

They will vie for the vacant WBU light flyweight crown. Mepranum has a record of 30 wins, 4 loss, 1 draw while Tabamo is 8-8-4.

The 28-year old Mepranum previously scored a unanimous decision against Jetly Purisima last Aug. 14 at the SM Davao Annex.
Mepranum last saw action in Maasim on Sept. 27, 2014 when he beat Albet Alcoy by a unanimous decision. That was after he bowed to Mexican Juan Francisco Estrada by a 10th round TKO in their championship fight for the WBA Super World flyweight and WBO World flyweight titles at the Centro Convenciones in Puerto Penasco, Sonora, Mexico.

The 23-year old Tabamo, on the other hand, is a southpaw who drew three of his last four fights.

The first one was a majority draw with Marvilo Aballe of MP Davao Stable last April 5 in Panabo City followed by a split draw with Elvin Bicoy on May 19 at Magsaysay Gym in Magsaysay, Lanao del Norte.

In his last outing, Tabamo also settled a split draw with Donny Mabao last Sept. 13 at the Salug Gym in Salug, Zamboanga del Norte.

Tabamo's previous victory was a unanimous decision against Marwin Cristota at the Bula Gym in Gensan.

Meanwhile, World Boxing Federation (WBF) world super featherweight champion Harmonito ?Hammer? dela Torre (16-0-0) of General Santos City will also see action in the undercard against Richard ?Tibay? Betos (20-12-1) of Butuan City in a 10-round non-title fight.

?It?s just a tune-up fight for Hammer kasi naka-train na siya sana for his first fight in the US pero na postponed lang kasi late na dumating ang kanyang visa,? said Dela Torre?s boxing manager Jim Claude Manangquil of Sanman Promotions.

Dela Torre was supposed to fight Wanzell ?Venom? Ellison of New Jersey, USA last Oct. 23 at the Celebrity Theatre in Phoenix, Arizona.

Also pitted in the Maasim undercard promoted by re-electionist Maasim Mayor Jojo Lopez are Weljan Ugbaniel (13-4-1) of Gensan and Rogen Flores (14-27-6) of Dipolog City for 10 rounds and 112 lbs.

Ugbaniel (13-4-1) is coming from two back-to-back setbacks in separate title-fights. He first lost to Melvin Gumban by a first round knockout at the Gaisano Country Mall in Cebu for the Philippine super flyweight title last Jan. 18.

Ugbaniel then bowed to Nawaphon Por Chokchai by a 2nd round knockout in Thailand in their battle for the WBC Asian Boxing Council flyweight crown held last July 17.

The other undercard: Jethro Pabustan vs. Dondon Navarez (10 rds.-118 lbs.), Alvin Bais vs. Jomar Ministerio (10 lbs.-116 lbs.), Vinz Paraz vs. Jason Daming (6 rds.-108 lbs.); Adam Diu Abdulhamid vs. Hagibis Quinones (6 rds.-135 lbs.). ? LITO DELOS REYES
