NBA -- Kobe, Lakers return to Hawaii for training camp By Ryan Rodis PhilBoxing.com Fri, 02 Oct 2015 LOS ANGELES - Coming off their worst season (record-wise), Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers have returned to a familiar place to prepare for the 2015-16 season --- Hawaii. This is the 12th time the Lakers have held their camp in the paradise state but their first since 2007. The purple and gold franchise begins the exhibition schedule with a back-to-back skirmish against the Utah Jazz on October 4 and October 7 at the Stan Sheriff Center inside the University of Hawaii campus at Manoa. Although there are 19 players listed in training camp, only 15 will make the roster. Kobe Bryant, now entering his 20th season as a Laker, remains the center of attention as the 37-year old veteran hopes to bounce back from a series of injuries that have plagued him the last three years, including a torn rotator cuff that held him to just 41 games in the last two seasons. "It feels beautiful," Kobe told the Associated Press about his return to Hawaii where he trained with the Lakers prior to his rookie season in 1996. "It's a little strange because I remember like it was yesterday being here and all of my teammates that were here before that are all now either retired or coaching r on TV, so its a little strange to look around and see so many young guys, but at the same time you feel a great sense of responsibility in trying to guide them as much as I can," the 5-time NBA champion added. The Lakers, who logged a dismal 21-61 won-lost record last season, open the 2015-16 regular season on October 28 when the host the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Staples Center, a match-up that pits the top two draft picks this past June -- D' Angelo Russell of the Lakers and Karl Anthony Towns.
