RESULTS OF BATANG PINOY SELECTION PROCESS FOR TEAM CEBU

Youngsters aged 10 years old and above who consider "Sweet Science" their sport of choice converge in barangay Tisa, Cebu City last 19th of September. This is for the selection process that will comprise Team Cebu in the upcoming Philippine Youth Games (Batang Pinoy) National Championships next month at the Cebu City Sports Center. A total of 12 bouts were contested for the right to represent the "Queen City of the South" in the prestigious national tournament spearheaded by the Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Commitee to discover potential athletes in the grassroots level.

Justin Trazo of 10,000 BC boxing club wins via UD against Klenton Martinez of Mike Boxing/ Team Joeric boxing club in 24 kgs., Jefferson Trazo of 10,000 BC boxing club scores a SD win over fierce rival John Kevin Jimenez of Alaska, Mambaling in 26 kgs. division, Riel Gabunilas of 10,000 BC boxing stable outscores Lester Balabat of Oppra Elementary School in 28 kgs., Yer Rodge Gura of Big Yellow boxing gym decisions Angelo Bulasa of Basak in 38 kgs., Jong Panemdem of Mabolo Omega TKO's Lorenz Ralph Berondo of Abellana National High School in the first round, Jerwin Matayao of Oppra edges out Limbert Cainap of 10,000 BC boxing gym for a SD win.

46 kg. pug Adrian Rosal of Team Cebu City wins a UD against Teodulf Labajo of 10,000 BC boxing stable, Kit Nino Bacalso of 10,000 BC and Jeffrey Jimenez of Team Cebu City engaged in back and forth action all throughtout the scheduled 3 rounds which resulted in a very close SD win for the latter, Bryan Niere of CTU stops Berlan Robles, also of 10,000 BC in the first round for a TKO win, Norman Russiana of CTU outsmarted Luis Espina of Mike Boxing/ Team Joeric boxing club for a SD win, Mateo Fondales of Oppra TKO's Arjun Caballes of Mabolo Omega in 58 kgs. division and Alllan Refuela of CCSC stops Rioxyl Tabogon in the second round after the Ermita, Cebu-native suffers a nasal injury.

This tournament is also part of Cebu City Sports Commission's "Paboksing sa Barangay", a ground level initiative to recognize youth individuals with potential pugilistic talent. Champions are not made overnight but a continous and elaborate dedication to an unforgiving sport. Dreams are mere visions that become reality with hard work and undying passion as boxing idols of today started their own path to greatness from scratch.
