TIBAY NG PINOY X: MP Davao boxers triumph

PhilBoxing.com

GENERAL Santos City -- Five of the eight boxers from the MP Davao Stable scored contrasting wins in the Tibay ng Pinoy X: Bakbakan sa Labangal held Sunday at the Barangay Labangal gym during the closing of the annual Tuna Festival here.

Genesis Libranza remained undefeated after he survived against veteran Michael ?Matibay? Rodriguez via a unanimous decision win in the main event while Drian ?Gintong Kamao? Francisco made a successful comeback by stopping Jilo Merlin in 2:12 of the first round in the main supporting bout.

Three others from the Davao City-based boxing gym of 8-division world champion Manny Pacquiao also won in the undercard of the free boxing show of the MP Promotions.

Six-rounder Ronie ?Navarette? Baldonado connected a right body shot against Mark Marticio of Sindangan Mayor Boy Se Stable for a knockout in 2:57 of the 4th round.

?Hagtik ug kumo ning bataa ni. Kulang na lang sa depensa kay bata pa siya. Pero puedeng ma-develop,? said MP Davao Stable chief trainer Raides ?Nonoy? Neri.

Baldonado, 19, a native of North Cotabato, is still undefeated with four straight wins all by knockouts.

He only won two of his six fights during his amateur days in Gensan.

?Na-develop dyud ko pagsulod nako sa MP gym tungod sa programa ni coach Nonoy Neri,? said Baldonado, a son of a farmer.
Miniflyweight Rene Mark Cuarto also of MP Stable survived the antics of Labangal?s Jon-Jon Santos to escape a majority decision in their 8-rounder bout, while Ariez Bienabdez outpointed Delfin de Asis of Valencia City for a unanimous decision.

Marvilo Aballe, another MP Stable boxer settled for a unanimous draw with Paolo Perono of Gensan in 8 rounds.

Jason Sanchez also of MP Stable, however, lost by a technical knockout in 1:18 of the 4th round from the hands of Sindangan?s Josel Gamalo.

Orlyl Silvestre was the other casualty for MP Stable after losing by a split decision to Michael Camilllion of Bukidnon.
Silvestre got careless and suffered a knockdown in the 9th round of their tenner.

In the other fights, Abdul Diu Abdulhamid of Sanman Stable landed a bodyshot on Quinones Stable?s Rey dela Cruz for a first round knockout in 2:32.

Gilbert Gomera of Golingan Stable maintained his clean record but via a controversial split decision over Ryan Rey Ponteras of Braveheart Stable in their exciting 8-rounder match.

?Everyone thought that Ponteras should have won the fight because he was more aggressive and had landed more telling blows,? said matchmaker Joven Jimenez.

The free boxing show was presented by Rep. Manny Pacquiao?s MP Boxing together with Labangal Barangay Captain Lorelie Pacquiao, former world-rated Bobby Pacquiao and the Joven Sports Promotion of Joven Jimenez. ? LITO DELOS REYES
