PBF CHAMP JUNNY SALOGAOL TO FIGHT IN THAILAND
By Felman Gingoyon PhilBoxing.com Sat, 29 Aug 2015

"The Punisher" will have the biggest break of his young career as he is scheduled to fight for a regional title in Thailand. The twenty-two year old from Big Yellow boxing gym in Lagtang, Talisay City, Cebu will also be fighting on foreign soil for the first time in his pro career. Matchmaker Christopher "Ping-Ping" Tepora, who helped in making this opportunity come to fruition informed this writer that the match-up is for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Pan-Pacific one hundred twenty-two pound title. He further stated that he has yet to know the opponent of the Borbon, Cebu-native as the fight contract is not yet available. The title fight is set for September 21 in the Thai capital city of Bangkok.
The PBF bantamweight champ was last seen in action three weeks ago in Minglanilla, Cebu. During that fight, he defended his title for the second time against Nicong Calamba of Agusan del Sur, registering a third-round KO victory. In a fight of brute guts and will, Salogaol had to weather a second round crisis as the challenger connected hard shots to the head that visibly hurt the champion. Fortunately, he was able to find his rhythm and landed a picturesque left hook that forced a halt to the bout.
"I know that winning fights in Thailand is hard but I will just do my best" stated Salogaol, who is being trained by coach Joseph Cortes. This statement from the Philippine champion will undoubtedly remind us that Thailand is infamously known for "hometown decisions", suggesting further that you need to knock your opponent out to win. As of the moment, he is in deep training at the gym in preparation for the big break just three weeks from now.
