NBA Playoffs -- Cavs smash Bulls, 106-91, knot series at 1-1 By Alex Boytan PhilBoxing.com Fri, 08 May 2015 CLEVELAND -- In a Game 2 that they absolutely had to win, the Cleveland Cavaliers came through, beating the Chicago Bulls, 106-91, before a roaring crowd of 20, 562 at the Quicken Loans Arena on Wednesday night. After dropping Game 1 on Monday, the Cavs have evened the best-of-7 Eastern Conference semifinals and avoided what would have been a disastrous 0-2 hole with the Bulls hosting Games 3 and 4 at the United Center in Chicago. The Cavs shot 65 percent from the field in the first quarter. They made 5 of 6 3-pointers to build an early 38-18 lead. They never looked back from there. LeBron James led all scorers with 33 points, making 13 of 29 field goals while pulling down eight rebounds and handing our five assists. Kyrie Irving added 21 points while James Jones was terrific off the bench, 5-of-9 form long distance for 17 markers. The Bulls tried to rally and make it a contest, but they shot just 40.6 percent from the field (32 of 79) and 31.8 percent from 3-point range (7 of 22). "They smashed us," Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau said during his post-game press conference after Chicago was beaten off the boards, 45-37. Chicago also had 12 turnovers against Cleveland's eight. The only worry the Cavs had for the night was the groin injury Iman Shumpert sustained. Although the defensive guard returned in the fourth quarter seemed hobbled and could be limited for Game 3. For the second straight game the Cavs were without forward Kevin Love (shoulder injury) and J.R. Smith (two-game suspension, but James was there. And so was his head band, which he hasn't worn since March 7. Jimmy Butler had 18 points for the Bulls while Derrick Rose finished with 14 and 10 assists. Game 3 is Friday night (Saturday AM in Manila) at the United Center in Chicago. Click here to view a list of other articles written by Alex Boytan. |
