PhilBoxing.com

QUEZON CITY ? ?Prince? Albert Pagara kept his IBF Intercontinental jr. featherweight belt and undefeated record with an impressive TKO win over Mexican challenger Rodolfo Hernandez. Pagara?s straight right toppled Hernandez in the opening round. The Mexican got up but continued to receive head jolting shots. Pagara?s right uppercut was his best punch of the fight but Hernandez remained on his feet.

The Mexican tried to mount an offense but his accuracy was found wanting. The third round ended with Hernandez being pounded on the ropes. The Mexican corner capitulated before the start of the 5th with Hernandez complaining of an injured right hand.

Pagara is now 23-0, 16KO?s. He is now set for an overseas outing by mid-year. Pagara said during the post-fight press conference that he felt Hernandez? power but he was able to shake it off. Hernandez drops to his sixth loss - 26-6-1, 24KO?s. Pagara is also ranked number seven in the February rankings of the IBF whose world champion is Carl Frampton of Northern Ireland.

Pagara downs Hernandez in the first round.

Highly ranked Japanese Ryo Akaho captured the WBO International bantamweight title with a fourth round TKO win over Prosper Ankrah of Ghana.

It started as a rough match with a lot of holding but Akaho caught Ankrah with a series of hard hooks in the 4th sending the Ghanaian down. Referee Atty. Danrex Tapdasan reached the ten count at the 2:59 mark.

Akaho is now 26-1-2,18KO?s while Ankrah goes down to 24-5, 15KO?s. AJ Banal had a routine eight round unanimous decision win over Junior Bahawa of Indonesia. Bahawa was deducted a point in round six due to a clash of heads that caused a cut on Banal?s scalp. The score of 80-71 was given by judges Greg Ortega, Salven Lagumbay and German Tayag.
