Billiards powerhouse Philippines and Taiwan made their presence felt as each country sent three players to the elite quarterfinals in the ongoing Manny Pacquiao Cup 10-Ball World Championship at SM City Gensan here Friday evening. World number 10 Carlo Biado of the Philippines broke from a 4-4 tie to beat Radoslaw Babica of Poland, 11-7 while Warren Kiamco came from behind to overcome Cheng Yu Hsuan of Taiwan, 11-9. In a thrilling all Filipino matchup, Johann Chua, ranked number 13 in the world, subdued Lee Van Corteza, 11-10. Ko Pin Yi led the Taiwanese assault with a 11-5 drubbing of Indonesia's Irsa Nasution while Pin Yi's brother Ko Ping Chung got the better of Russia's Ruslan Chinakhov, 11-10. The third Taiwanese to make it was Yang Ching Sun who built an early lead against Marcus Chamat of Sweden until Chamat rallied to make it a hill-hill contest but Yang finally pulled it off 11-10. Rounding the Final 8 was Spain's David Alcaide who beat Poland's Mieszko Fortunski, 11-7 and world number 11 Liu Haitao of China who overpowered Indonesia's Ricy Yang, 11-6. In Saturday morning's pairings, Biado will go up against Liu Haitao of China; Kiamco will face Ko Ping Chung of Taiwan; Chua meets Spain's David Alcaide and Ko Pin Yi faces Yang Ching Shun in an all-Taiwanese battle.
