ESTRELLA STOPS AGUELLO IN THE 10TH ROUND IN MEXICO By Maloney L. Samaco PhilBoxing.com Mon, 16 Feb 2015 Hometown advantage plus excellent fighting with an unblemished record pushed Adrian Estrella to go for the world title when he stopped resilient Adones Aguelo in the 10th round in Los Mochis, Mexico on Saturday (Sunday Philippine time). Estrella defended his WBC Central American Boxing Federation (FECARBOX) super featherweight title and maintained his immaculate record of 21-0 with 19 KOs as he dominated the fight from the start throwing stinging jabs on the visiting Aguelo. The Maasin City boxer defended well but appeared hurt in the third round. Experience kept Aguelo A. Singwangcha his feet in the middle rounds preventing "Diamante" from inflicting so much damage. Aguelo fell down to 23-11-2, 15 KOs. The fight seemed headed to a decision when Estrella unleashed a barrage of blows that trapped Aguelo to the corner in the 10th round. ?Diamante? did not stop the flurry of heavy punches until Aguelo dropped on his knee and appeared to be hurt. This prompted the referee to halt the fight at 0:59 of the round. Estrella is headed to a world title fight when he became just the second fighter to KO Aguelo. He wanted to challenge world WBC super featherweight champion Takashi Miura of Japan. The only other boxer who stopped Aguelo was American Yuandale Evans on April 2011. The fight was a six rounder in Jakarta, Indonesia where Evans won by first round TKO. In the undercard, super featherweight Miguel Roman (49-11, 37 KOs) won via a sixth round disqualification over Adrian Verdugo (22-10-1, 19 KOs), both are Mexicans.
