CHICAGO -- Derrick Rose had an awful night shooting the ball at the United Center on New Year's Day, sinking just 7 of 25 field goals.
But the Bulls sparkplug made the shots that mattered late in the fourth quarter where he scored 13 of his 17 point in the final 12 minutes to lead the Chicago Bulls to a 106-101 victory over the Denver Nuggets.
Rose heroics averted a two-game skid for Chicago, which has now won seven of their last eight assignments to improve to 23-10 and a fourth place spot in the Eastern Conference standings.
Jimmy Butler was the main man for the Bulls with 26 while Pau Gasol came close to a triple-double with a strong effort of 17 points, nine rebounds and nine blocks. Aaron Brooks added 12 for the Bulls, who drained 38 of 91 field goals for a 41.8 percent clip.
Wilson Chandlet paced Denver with a team-high 22 points while Kenneth Faried had a monster night with 19 rebounds and 18 points. Arron Afflalo pitched in 19 for Denver, which shot just 40.2 percent from the field (37 of 92).
The defeat dropped the Nuggets to 12th place in the Western Conference standings with a 13-20 record overall. The Nuggets are a dismal 4-12 on the road. (HP).
