PINOY PRIDE 28: NIETES AND VELARDE MAKE WEIGHT

CEBU CITY ? Defending champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes of the ALA Gym and Mexican challenger Carlos ?Chapito? Velarde easily made the division limit during the official weigh-in held Friday noon at Robinson's Fuente.

Nietes, who is recognized as world champion by the WBO and Ring magazine, stepped on the scales at 107.5 lbs while Velarde weighed in at 108 lbs.

Nietes is aiming to make history and surpass the seven year three month record of the great Flash Elorde while Velarde is also keen on making his own history by being the first Mexican to beat Nietes. Nietes' conditioning coach Nick Curson said during yesterday's press conference that he has worked on ?rehabilitating weaknesses and problems and increasing the power? of the ALA fighters. The results will be known on fight night.

For the IBF jr.flyweight eliminator ? Milan ?El Metodico? Melindo ? 107.5 lbs, Saul ?Baby? Juarez of Mexico ? 107 lbs.

For the IBF Intercontinental jr.featherweight title ? defending champ 'Prince' Albert Pagara and Mexican challenger Raul Hirales both weighed 122 lbs.

IBF/WBO minimumweight champion Francisco Rodriguez moved up to 113 lbs for his non-title contest versus Jomar Fajardo who weighed 112 lbs.

Former WBO minimumweight champion Merlito Sabillo (107 lbs) vs Faris Nenggo (107lbs) of Indonesia

AJ Banal (124.5lbs) vs Maxsaisai Sithsaithong (125lbs) of Thailand

Mark Magsayo (126 lbs) vs Moon-Sun Jung (125.5lbs) of South Korea

Polid Banal (116lbs) vs Ritchen Rosales (113.5lbs)

Virgel Vitor (116.5lbs) vs Jovane Abejero (123.5lbs)

Gerard Suico (111lbs) vs Fritz Cabilla (110lbs)

Present for the official weigh-in were GAB Chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon, Dr. Nasser Cruz, Comm. Matthew Gaston, WBO Asia-Pacific VP Leon Panoncillo and GAB-Cebu's Rolando Mendoza and Glenn Agena.

PINOY PRIDE 28: HISTORY IN THE MAKING will be on Saturday November 15 at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. Fights start at 5PM.
