NBA -- Heat top Warriors to notch first preseason win

MIAMI -- The Kansas City Royals will play Game 1 of the World Series on October 21, a historic sporting event when baseball will be played in October for the first time since 1985.

But for one night at least, Kansas City, Missouri, was a basketball town after hosting an NBA exhibition game at the Sprint Center featuring the Miami Heat and the Golden State Warriors.

Winless at 0-4 entering the contest, the Heat raced to a 27-23 first quarter lead but the Warriors countered with a 33-20 second quarter to take a 9-point halftime lead.

The Heat ramped up their attack in the second half and eventually pocketed a 115-108 victory on the strength of a crippling 32-13 endgame spurt. Chris Bosh scored 21 points and seven rebounds while journeyman Shawne Williams finished with 19, including five triples.

Klay Thompson led the Warriors with 29 points while David Lee added 24 and six boards. Golden State, which missed the services of center Mareese Speights, shot only 29 percent of their 3-point shots.

Golden State will try to bounce back on Sunday against the Rockets while the Heat travel to San Antonio tomorrow to face their bitter rival Spurs, who beat Miami in last June's NBA Finals.

Heat guard Mario Chalmers plows through Warriors forward David Lee. Golden State fell to Miami, 115-108.
