ROLLY MATSUSHITA DEFENDS OPBF CROWN IN JAPAN TODAY

Filipino Rolly Lunas, who is now using his Japanese name Matsushita, will defend his Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) bantam title for the first time today against Thailand's Samingnum Wor Wiwatananon in a 12-round scorcher at the Sangyo Hall in Kanazawa, Japan.

Filipino Silvestre Abainza will be the third man on the ring for today's fight, while another Filipino Teddy Alivio is one of the three judges.

The Tabaco City native Lunas, who is now based in Japan, is coming off a close technical decision win over compatriot Malcolm Tunacao to wrest the OPBF title last January 13, and a victory today is expected to give him a possible crack at WBC bantam titlist Hozumi Hasegawa.

"I'm dedicating this fight to my fellow Filipinos. This fight will prove how ready I am for the big time," said Lunas in an earlier interview.

Both Lunas, who sparred some 97 rounds for this fight, and the Thai challenger came in at 117.5 at yesterday's weigh-in.
