Alvarez (C) wins.
A week before Manny ?Pacman? Pacquiao fights in Las Vegas, his countryman and province mate, Joebert Alvarez A.K.A. ?Little Pacman? scored a Unanimous Decision victory over Mexican, Julian ?El Chicano? Rivera last Friday night.
Alvarez (14-0-1, 6 KOs) survived an early knockdown in Round 2 and eked out a 114-112, 114-112,115-112 win in the scorecards in Rivera?s hometown of Mexico City. He was knocked down by Rivera (13-9-1, 2 KOs) early in the fight but persevered patiently against a game and tough opponent by staying active and aggressive in their 12 round fight which was shown live via Boxeo Telemundo.
The young prospect out of General Santos City in the Philippines rallied post the knockdown, employing work to the head and body of Rivera who also did not shy away from the action. Alvarez initiated the action in most rounds, jabbing and throwing straights on Rivera who also countered him with straights of his own.
Both fighters traded shots against each other producing a very good but tiring fight between two game fighters as they vie for a vacant WBC regional strap.
Alvarez grabbed the WBC Continental Americas flyweight with the win and stayed unbeaten in his young career in his first fight overseas. The 24 year-old now resides and trains in California under Nonito Donaire Sr.
